In the August 2005 issue of the Australian "Dolly" magazine, targeted at teenage girls, was a disturbing article. It was one of those 'personal story' articles and was given the sensationalist title of "I was born with a penis and vagina". I thought I would raise this so that parents would realise this had been published in the off-chance that their daughters or other family happened to read it.
Unfortunately it was presented as a girl with CAH that obviously did not have a good grasp of the history of her condition or ongoing treatment, which unfortunately can also impact on others and mentioned she had CAH.
We, of course, understand that all our girls are born girls and that sometimes it is just that they are a bit more special than most, but that everything they are born with it that of a female, even if some do not realise that straight away and some small adjustments may need to be made. Our extended families and friends may also not fully realise this fact and therefore, may misunderstand the article and the information (if you can call it that) that it presents.
