Update on our house fire
Oct. 29th, 2005   12:04pm

Just thought I'd let you know the progress on our house subsequent to the fire. Looks like we might be able to move back in, in about two weeks.

There has been consistently steady progress for a couple of months, after the insurance company decided who would get the tender. On Friday (yesterday) the tradesmen were all falling over each other in their efforts to finish off their jobs. The painters were cursing the plasterer who was in the way doing his last minute fastidious job at the cornices, with the electrician underfoot; then the kitchen company man came to install a cabinet that they had 'misplaced' the week before, then another couple of other people rocked in who I didn't know who they represented.

Outside were the plumbers and their excavators doing some other work for us, (independent of the fire) and what a mess they made - they sure chose a crazy day to turn up yesterday, after nagging them for weeks and weeks to get the job done. At one stage I counted nine trucks and vans either up our driveway or on the street.

It's all rather daunting and probably more stressful than I realise. I have been breaths away from pneumonia for the last ten days and have been on 50mgs of Prednisolone weaning down over six days, and using the maximum amount of inhalants I can use. Still very wheezy and have creps in the lower lung bases. I'll probably survive!!!

At least it's all very sane when I come back from 'our house' to 'our serviced apartment' (where we are currently living) each afternoon and can relax in a comfortable place.
