It's definitely about how the form is filled out for a Disability Allowance. When one of our sons was diagnosed with Schizophrenic Spectrum Disorder, his case worker at the employment agency he was registered with, helped him with filling out his form and he was given the allowance. At the time she stated that also appearance was everything - and by that she meant whether you looked as if you were/could cope or not. She advised our son (who was in a highly distressed state having been sacked from his job when his employers found out) that he needed the allowance so that he could get his head around the diagnosis, decide what treatment options he wanted to follow, become stabilised and then to begin the process of looking for a job. He was told to dress totally opposite to how he normally did and stop shaving for a week. Thankfully, he no longer needs an allowance as he is an independent 26 year old with a job.
Perhaps it may be helpful to schedule an appointment with the hospital social worker for assistance in applying for any benefits other than the HCC.
