I am a 36yo female to male transsexual. I decided to change gender in 1999 after I found living with symptoms of virilization too much to bear living life as a woman. I always felt more male than female.
I asked doctors at the time to investigate whether I had an intersex condition. They did a simple chromosome test, but nothing else apart from the normal sex hormone testing they do with all prospective trans patients. I had to insist on these tests; they were done grudgingly, but were inconclusive.
Then last year my mother rang me saying that she had just "remembered" that I had surgery at birth to correct a fused vagina, I was in hospital 10 days. She was not allowed to see me undressed till a few days after birth and I was taken from her straight away. She also had mentioned at some point that my father had matured early sexually and he was quite short as an adult as am I; he was 5 foot 5, I am 5 foot 1. I also matured early, got breasts at 7, pubic hair at 8 and periods at 11. I had reached my full adult height at age 11.
I have mentioned most of this to doctors and they laugh and say it is wishful thinking that I have an intersex condition. I may or may not have CAH but I would like to know to rule it out. Would there be any place I could go where a doctor would actually test me? I would imagine if I did have CAH it would be the non salt wasting type.
I am in Sydney.
