re: Side effects Prednisolone
Nov. 15th, 2006   12:22pm

Hi Iris,

I'm glad that you are feeling somewhat better since starting the Prednisolone.

The main thing I would suggest regarding the heartburn (if this is a new symptom) is to ensure that you are taking your medication (Prednisolone) with some food or at least a snack.

One of the stated side effects of corticosteroids can be gastric ulcers - so if you are feeling heartburn already, you need to be very vigilant about having something to help line your stomach when taking your meds.

I'm sure some people are more susceptible to this side effect than others. However among the CAH population of adults, I know of several who have this problem and need to be on proton pump inhibitors or other medication for stomach irritation.

Regarding the hair growth - well it can be very variable .... and because I haven't looked it up for awhile I'd rather research it a bit before saying what you can expect. I just know that once some hair (particularly facial hair follicles) is/are established they can be very hard to eliminate without a bit of help from IPL or other depilatory treatment. Maybe someone else is more up with the vellus and terminal hair discussion than I am at the moment.

Rosalie
