am i the only one to have dramas with centre link/ carers allowance?
Jan. 5th, 2008   2:46am
HI My daughter was born 10 weeks ago and was diagnosed wit SWCAH at 5 days old. The doctor told us we could apply for carers allowance and a health care card for my daughter, so we did. My poor GP and I had to waste so much time writing letters and filling in stupid forms just to prove that CAH even existed (it wasnt listed on their list of disorders/disabilities) and then I got a letter the other day saying that she could have a health care card but not the allowance. I called them to ask why this is so( as things like Diabetes are on the list of disorders, and my daughter requires more care than someone with Diabetes)  and they couldnt answer me and said my Gp and I must have filled out the forms incorrectly and will have to do them again. As you can imagine I was pretty upset, not only am I tired and emotional because I have a 10 week old baby (also a very, very busy 2y.o son)  and having the shock and distress of having a baby that has been diagnosed with a rare and serious medical condition ( as Im sure everyone here understands completely) and now having to visit so many doctors so often so far from home because of this , now I am supposed to leap through hoops for some goose at centrelink to tell me that they dont know what is going on and I have to go through the whole process again. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Has anyone else succeded and managed to get the allowance?
lisa
