re: Letting CAH kids sleep in
Feb. 7th, 2008   12:34am

Hey Michelle

When our two Salt Wasting CAH kids were young (under school age) we couldn't let them sleep in.  The majority of the time if they were sleeping way past their usual wake-up time it meant they were quite sick.

Now that they are little older I let them sleep in but I always go and feel their forehead, that will usually stir them a little bit aswell to see that they are ok.  Unfortunately I think while the kids are young it's best not to let them sleep too far outside of their usual routine to be on the safe side.  Alot of the time young CAH kids will be sick first thing in the morning.

On another point!  I've heard teenagers can run into some problems aswell.  If they start going out very late at night and then sleep in to lunchtime they can end up constantly sick.  I've heard of teens being sick for some time and when they next see the Endocrinologist it's worked out that it's because they are not having their usual morning dose early enough.  I've heard recommendations to set an alarm clock with their tablet next to their bed so they can just wake-up take the tablet and go back to sleep.
