Hi - my son was diagnosed with CAH at age 7. Probably the first signs I should've picked up on were pubic hair(only a few, but like an adult) at the age of 5. His dad is hispanic and extremely hairy so I just didn't pick up on anything. Then in 2nd grade he went from an extremely quiet child in school to acting out. Also we noticed some mild body odor and a few blemishes. Still 7 years old is too young for those symptoms. I immediately took him to his ped who referred us to our endo. I'm so glad we caught this when we did because although his age was 7 years his bone age was 11. At that point his height prediction was only 5'2". The disease had already done quite a bit of damage. My son is now 14 and has been off of his Cortef for two years. The medicine did it's job as his height prediction is now 5'9" (He is now 5'5-1/2"). The horrible part of all this is that in the 4-1/2 years he was treated he put on 90 lbs. I say due to the steroid medication, but the doctors will never admit to that. Right now he is probably 50lbs. overweight. I put a message out on the main msg board asking if any other children had the same effects from the medicine and many did. My son also wet his bed until he was 12 years old. I hope this helps.
