Sorry to hear you are feeling so distressed about your weight that you feel the only option is to stop taking your tablets. This really isn't the answer and you are not only putting your life at risk but could also be setting yourself up for other future health problem and putting fertility in jeopardy too. It is true, too high a level of steroids can make you gain weight, so I understand your reasoning but the risk is far too great and I feel you would be better off ensuring your treatment is better monitored and trying to get some realistic help from your consultant. Have you had 24 hour profiles? I am assuming you are in the UK, as your message is on this board? I would be interested to know which doctor you see - perhaps you should be asking for a second opinion? At the age of 16 years, you are probably near the end of growth (when steroid doses can usually be brought down without worrying about height) and weight (which is often a problem during puberty) can be sorted out more easily. You cannot just stop taking your tablets altogether though, you need expert guidance. You really will become extremely unwell quite quickly otherwise and could damage other organs. My son (also 16) also had problems with weight a few years ago but is now under the care of an excellent endocrinologist who reduced his hydrocortisone dose dramatically (though this had to be done gradually, to avoid a crisis) and is now very slim. I am sure that with the right help and care, you could also do the same. Please think about it and feel free to contact me - I would like to help, if I can.
