re: daughter aged 17 been given metformin to help with weight loss.
Sep. 19th, 2006   9:32am

Hi Susan,  Metformin is quite regularly used for adult females with CAH for various reasons.  There is good evidence that it helps with PCOS in terms of regulating menstrual cycle, improving ovulation induction and also helping with hirsutism.  It is used for weight loss too but I am told that the benefit tends to be restricted to patients with a BMI in excess of 28kg/m2.

I hope this helps!

Sue
