Hi Sue, I totally understand your mistrust of the new consultant, especially as you were given such conflicting advice from various doctors. I have always been told that an adrenalectomy should be considered only as a last resort though, once all over routes have been tried to get a patient under good control. It has helped some women (particularly those with fertility and weight problems but there are risks an no guarantees. It is a major operation (although can be done by keyhole surgery now) and there is no going back, if the situation becomes worse!
I have heard of Dr Ian MacFarlane in Liverpool and understand he is very good, so despite his unfortunate attitude, it sounds as if he has Sarah's best interests at heart by trying to get her sorted out without resorting to an adrenalectomy. Obviously it is hurtful when doctors start mentioning diet as it suggests they are blaming your daughter's weight problem on her overeating but I guess they do need to make sure that the reason she is overweight is due to her steroids/condition rather than just her diet. Some doctors don't realise that their brusk manner and flippant questions offend patients - they live in a World of their own!
Good luck and do keep us informed of Sarah's progress.
