Hi Sarah, Yes it is possible that your brother was actually a female with CAH, born with an enlarged clitoris, and therefore mistaken as a male at birth. His death must have caused enormous distress for your parents, especially if they also discovered his sex was recorded inaccurately too. I understand their reluctance to disclose this information, as it must have caused them immeasurable pain at the time. However, it is important that you are aware of the facts, so that the doctors can investigate fully your own medical problems.
I do however think it is unlikely (although not impossible) that you have CAH too as most families 'breed true' and as your 'brother' must have had salt-losing CAH, if you had the condition too, it should be the same form and diagnosed shortly after birth. The fact that you reached a good height and do not have PCO's, seems to dispute this too.
Cushings syndrome is the production of too much cortisol, in CAH there is usually insufficient cortisol produced - they are quite different.
If you have been told that the reason you may need IVF is due to male infertility - aren't they implying the problem is with your partner, not you?
Whatever, good luck with your appointment and I hope you get some answers!
