I'm a CAH carrier and am pregnant but there are already problems
Oct. 13th, 2007   8:33am

I found out after genetic testing in the summer that I am definately a carrier of CAH (my brother died from the condition in 1986).

My husband was also tested and doesn't have the most common strain but are chances were 1 in 124 if I remember correctly.

We had IVF in August and I am now 8 weeks pregnant.

However our pregnancy isn't progressing as well as it should be and the foetus is starting to show signs of IUGR - which is growth retardation.  Last 2 scans it is measuring 2 weeks behind and we have to have another scan next week so we can determine whether this is the case.

Some of the research I'm doing seems to flag up CAH and IUGR together. I am really concerned because if I lose this baby then its all over as we could never afford another round of IVF and I really don't think I could manage emotionally.

Does anyone know if the two are related and whether my dr's should be doing other investigation to determine the reason for the growth retardation.

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Sarah
