Curious: What was the reaction of you or yourDr when you saw your daughters unique anatomy
Jan. 11th, 2005   10:21pm

I pose this question because I have heard how parents and doctors usually react when regenerative orgins  don't fall at either end of the spectrum (male/female) but somewhere in the middle.  In the back of my mind, though I am childless, I feel I would have more confrontations with the doctors over this matter tah anything else. No I don't have any type of case history or family history of CAH or any other condition that can cause anatomical uniqueness. But I just feel if you come in this world a certian way, so be it, God made that decision not you, me or anyone else. If it aint broke don't fix it.

About two weeks ago a friend of mine Angela had her 2nd child, and I was there to witness the event. Some how the babay got all tangled up in the umbilical cord so the labor didn't progress  past 5cm and it (labor) was going on about 18 or 19 hours by that time. So they did a C section, to get this whole ordeal over with.  When the baby came out the Husband Rick who was standing beside me made the declaration "its a girl"

I took  look see and low and behold, my 1st responce was WOW,  her clitoris, for lack of a better description was huge. It did protrude a great deal and by my estimates was probably 1/4" to 1/2" long, on a baby born full term at 8lbs 12oz and it was as thick as one of her labia majora, at 1st I thought she had 3 labia majoras, honestly I did.  My 2nd thought was OH NO, what were the doctors thinking, what will they tell my friend and her husband, will they immdiately wisk the child away for test ect... My friend and her husband were beyond happy and I was afraid thier bubble would soon burst.

The doctors and nurses took the baby named Beth to the little station that they used, cleaned her up, wrapped her in a blanket and brought it to my friend to see. Not one doctor or nurse in that room said anything negative or even suggested something was wrong. And withing the hour Beth was in the nursury front row. She was the biggest thing in there, and true her assets were unique and notably different from the other girls in the nursury, you can still tell it was a girl and NOT a boy. Once again the attending nurses said nothing negative.  I thought to myself not all doctors are evil, not one doctor in this delivery room on this day acted the way that is potrayed more often than not when issues of unique genitals come up.

3 days latter mommy and daughter came home 100% intack and untouched. I latter asked Angela did the doctors mention anything about clitorectomy or things of that such. And she told me the pediatrition made mention of it latter after he did his exam. But she told him surgury was not an option. Come to find out the little girl's blessing is a family trait, go figure.
