I am so happy that Mother and Child are both doing great. She is very lucky to have a friend that is concerned for her and the welfare of her child. I am sure we as parents and CAHers have all heard different versions of how to explain our childrens virilized genitals. I appreciate some Drs being discreet and waiting until baby and mom are rested before they drop this sort of news in there lap. I understand your comment about If it ain't broke don't fix it! But unfortunately as Aimee suggested appearance is not as it always seems. Some of these children need exstensive work to function and enter into puberty in a normal matter. Some need to have work done to keep from having continuoius urinary tract infections. So yes unfortunatley some of theses children NEED the surgery. God made them that way yes he did....but he also makes children with deformed facial features ! Do we leave those alone? Birthmarks so big and dark they cover half a childs face........ Should it be left alone for the child to be teased about and ridiculed all through his growing years. If you are a parent your role in life is to protect your child from any hurt pain suffering and illness. Making a medical decision of the multitude is not easy as it is different for each child. But , I do know that as gross or ugly as it may look to some. As parents with children with this condition ................... It was at one time the only way we knew our child had a possible death warrant hanging over there crib and needed to be medicated. (we now have testing) If we had a choice we would choose no ambiguous Genitals of course, but through education and trial and error many have suffered the loss of there sweet child because we did not know how to fix this problem. I am still uncertain today if we know how. But ,I do know that as I hug my Granddaughter tonight I can't imagine the pain of NOT having her. Life is not about the package it is about what is inside! Hope this makes you understand another view.
