I'm a woman with SWCAH and I have a huge problem with the term "intersex."  Regardless of its origin (MDs, the media, whatever...) the word needs a new definition....one that's not so broad so as to include CAH.  The media love the term because it's inflammatory and "sexy" and it sells.  The reality is the majority of women born with CAH (provided they are treated and under somewhat good control) grow up to live happy, heterosexual lives as WOMEN.  There are a few (very few) cases of women who have gone untreated or were very poorly controlled that have had issues with gender identity.  However, this is in no way the "norm."  Unfortunately, those people with the most "problems" are the same people receiving the most coverage in the media.  People without anything to complain about--living normal, healthly lives--aren't newsworthy.  I'm not sure what should be done, but it might start with a redefinition of "intersex" and a call by the CAH community for a moratorium on the term when referring to Congenital Adrenal hyperplasia.
