Erin,

This is my point completely and it is good to hear it from a CAHer.  I have always thought the terminology is wrongly used for CAH.  I worry that because it is being used by media and whatever medical books, my daughter will grow up thinking that she is some freak (some of the printed articles could quite easily make her feel that way).  I would rather she reads the truth about CAH without it being associated with something that is not (ie, an intersex condition).  Don't get me wrong, I am NOT saying that people who are true intersex are freaks. Not at all.  What I mean is the media has ways of portraying/sensationalising CAH and making it sound like it's something freaky.  I don't want my daughter being brainwashed by reading these journals and starting to doubt herself.  I know when she is older, she will encounter CAH as being referred to as "intersex" and I will have to explain to her that she is not intersex.  She is XX, therefore not "between the sexes".  Hopefully she will believe me and not be doubting herself by what she has read and by the influence articles will have.

I think the terminology needs to be reviewed rather than putting CAH under the same umbrella term.

Liz
