re: chromosomes and gender identity
Feb. 28th, 2005   10:16pm

There are people who don't have CAH or anyother condition who are male xy & feel female.  No one is saying anything negative about those people, no one has even had a problem with the surgery part.  Our issue is how CAH was portrayed.  It left a lot of us upset once again at how what was between a saltwasting CAH girls legs is all that is mentioned, if they are going to talk about CAH..talk about CAH.  NO one who had surgery for their CAH daughter had gender assignment surgery.  She already has a gender.  She is a female.  If you are saying what about her deciding later in life she wants to be aboy..well what about my non-cah daughter or my non-cah nephew..should we have waited for them to tell us what they are before filling out the birth certificate?  I think not, so why is there an issue about my DAUGHTER being my DAUGHTER with her xx chromosomes, her uterus, ovaries, fused LABIA & enlarged CLITORIS.  HUMM, no male characteristics there.  Again, having the surgery now or later was not the problem...but get CAH right
