You are correct, Dana. I did change my name, mostly for professional reasons. It goes back to long before I ever became involved in activism--in fact, my family has always called me Betsy. The Driver part has been around since I was in college in the 1980s. However, few people are aware of it and even fewer the history of it and I am exceptionally curious about how you knew--which is why I replied in the way I did. If I have mentioned something here in this board, can you point out the url for it?
I do smoke which is a horrible habit and yes, I should quit.
On your feelings that I appear masculine--again, I pretty always have. However, you need to keep in mind that I also don't wear make-up; I never have. Even when they came to tape the program that airs this month with me in it, they needed to being powder for my face so it wasn't shiny under all the lights because I didn't own any.
To the best of my knowledge, I avoid directly addressing any parents directly on surgery in order to keep it from appearing I am questioning specific parents. I know in the past (long ago--I've been haunting this board for way too long) I have but realized it wasn't very nice. However, if I post and you feel it is addressed to you, I am sorry, there is nothing I can do make that not happen other than ask why do people take it so personally when most of what I post is pretty generic? Even when parents post indicating surgery is scheduled, I generally don't automatically respond. The times I do, it may be share citations about surgery that frankly, are important. It is the most current research out there.
