Oh geeez Cherry : ) i read your post two times and i just roared with laughter....i just did and I shouldn't but what could i say you are honest and maybe it takes that type of honesty for you and others to get through to the people that need to hear it at the links I provided. I understand where Besty is coming from too and from your next post you do also. I know Besty does get me because we have talked of the board and it was actually someone else with another condition that helped me understand more.
Like Betsy, I don't perfer the Intersex word either but i think the message she has does have value in many ways. She sure gets people to think and I like that. As for the ISNA group? a lot of what they say is what parents are trying to do anyway but I don't feel the intersex word helps CAH as a whole and the way they present it just leads the wrong way into it seems other agendas. They are very vague when it comes to the specifics of CAH and I find that really insulting. I think CAH is better served by the prader scale these days anyway just like it was important that female pseudo hermaphrodite secondary to 11 Hydroxylase deficiency Classical Simple Virilizing Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is used for me specific to my case and era in time. Using the Prader scale shows a flow and that's cool. Parents should be given all the info and then decide whatever that may be based on that individual family. My parents were OK with the way I was born or they wouldn't of adopted me that way. My parents did the surgery because my period was coming in a couple of years and when some doctor mentioned done for social reasons my dad thought that was B***S*** the babysitter never freaked over me and boys were a calling when I was 12 for dates which I declined because I was to traumatized by the genital exams at the U of Mich and wasn't all that into knowing other people but the U of Mich these days I hear has a program set up to help someone born like me deal much better yes they use the word Intersex now with it and yeah they could use the code name Zebra but at least there is a better coping system in place for patients that have CAH and the like because coping with Captain Morgan and Coke never worked.
Besty wrote that even Bodies Like Ours might take on a different view years from now and she use's the word intersex with CAH and other conditions but so does CORNELL, U of Mich, the doctors that are from the ISNA Medical board are from all over the country and an Endo Journals that I looked at but you all go at her someone w/ cah and for me a house divided doesn't grow.
