Thanks danny it's a subject that does need to be discussed openly and honestly. I had this done and I have been damaged by it. But I will openly discuss it. Walk into any major bookshop in England it's Waterstones then go to the medical/health section and even the latest books will have photo's in them etc. Parents need to know this. As it may be their children that are on display to the world. I'm sorry if it's a shock to some I really am but I have spent years trying to understand this procedure and I have tried to justify it's reasons. I know Docs need to learn etc but there is a very thin line that needs to be drawn. As a nurse student we have been shown pics not of cah but as learning disabilities on certain features sorry mental retardation if your American like Downs syndrome tubourous scolorosis etc I think thats how you spell it???. So far they are dressed as it's the facial features we look at. In nursing I've learned so much and it has helped me talk openly about what happened to me as a kid hence my book etc. But one question or fact we all should be aware of on this. I can walk in to any bookshop and get a peadiatric book on conditions like cah which have pics in them. SO CAN PERVERTS!!!! Some docs may be genuine for education but some it's for their own benifit and curiosity and some may also be perverts. As part of the cah groups we should be putting pressure on our governments to stop the publications of books which include childrens genitals etc. I f Docs etc have to learn then there are archives etc to look at. If they are online then they should be password protected including a students docs id etc to show they are genuine. I'm disturbred by the pics of cah on the net that are accesable just by putting the conditions name in the search engine google image etc.
England has very strict data protection laws. I've been told America is not as strict. I had to go through police checks etc and I had to have a report done by my G.P before I even got near a patient. Not sure what America does.
But this is a subject that seems to be put under the carpet. So I'm asking you all please be genuine I'm looking for both sides of the Arguement on this. IS THIS PRACTICE NEEDED TODAY?? OR LIKE ME YOU THINK IT IS NOW OUT OF DATE. I have a paper on the contraversies on medical photography I can email to you if you want ianfairbrother@blueyonder.co.uk
