My son who's 12 has adrenal hyperplasia. He was diagnosed at 4 months of age. He has 11hydroxylase deficiency<sp> and he is also saltwasting.
Our problem is that this fall school year has been the worst for him since he was first diagnosed. Every other week he comes down with another cold. He has asthma as well and it always kicks in with his colds. I have tried asking his pediatrician if it is normal for him to be sick so often. I do understand that his immune system isn't what it should be. but in the mean time every week he's getting sent home from school for something. I'm worried about him physically as well as socially.
Does this have anything to do with perhaps.. puberty onset? (he hasn't started that yet). He hasn't had to have his dosage changed on his hydrocortisol<sp> in quite some time. They do check every six months though.
Are there any other families going through this same thing? Every time he has the least little ache, pain or sneeze i feel like pulling my hair out because the school needs an excuse from a doctor because he's been absent so often during the school year.
Not to mention the fact that dealing with doctors who won't give you straight answers is a bit nerve wracking to say the least.
Please, any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you
