This is not normal
Jan. 4th, 2006   1:27am

MY son was diagnosed with classical swcah when he was 2 weeks. We were lucky that they found it early, if not without medication we would have lost him.  I was told by my family and his pcp and his endocrine specialist to apply for ssi. I'm a single mom and i can't place him into childcare. not only for the sake of his health but many won't take him because of the medication. I lost then we appealed and i lost that case as well. The judge ruled that he was considered normal,  at that same appeal i presented a letter from the pa state board of health declaring him legally disabled. we still lost. I know many out there are suffering and many have children that are suffering, with the stress and the doctors and the medication. but what part of my sons life is normal. he can't play with other children for fear the he will become sick which happens at least 5 or 6 times a month anyway,  hes 2 now and retains the strength of a 6 yr old.  we constantly dissinfect his toys wash his bed sheets he sees 3 doctors every 3 months i'm only afraid for when he becomes school age and I have to explain why i have to plunge a needle into him 3 times a day. not only that he might become diabetic. its hard enough tryin to make it on your own supporting your child,  but when your child suffers from something like this, who is there to talk to and understands what everyday life is like this. I can only pray for the other families who have cah or children with cah. God Bless you and i pray that God gives you all the strength you need to make it. and if anyone has any advice or some encouargement please  e-mail me at slimjim6703@yahoo.com. thank you

Jessica
