I'm so sorry you are burdened with fears about your child's health. Two of my children were diagnosed as salt wasters and I was pretty protective of them as well. However, they played soccer, football, track, tennis, sledding, trampoline, swimming --- physically, anything they wanted to do. I never told them they could not do a sport or play, etc., because of their health. If I did, they would grow up to be resentful, unhealthy for lack of exercise and very angry. They would probably turn that anger inward upon themselves or outward on other people, because that is what the human emotion usually does because you have no control over what genetic disorder you have!!
Just a couple of weeks ago, after genetic testing, it was determined that they were NEVER salt wasters!!!
I'm not suggesting your child is misdiagnosed, I only mention it because I now realize that no amount of my worrying, fear, controlling, anxiety or protection helped them in any way!!!!
We were told to apply for SSI which I did. We were denied. After reading SSI's explanation of a "disabled person", I can understand why. My children were really not disabled, I was disabled with fear!! If anything, my fear was disabling them, not CAH!! I, too, never wanted to work for fear of an adrenal crisis and they ended up never having it anyway!!
Whether you have CAH or not, your child could "catch" a million deadly viruses at daycare, from the grocery cart or your car could be hit pulling out of your parking spot and your child could have brain damage!! (that actually happened to someone in our town).
I bet being a single mom is really tough!!! We have a lot of support for single moms at our church. Maybe you could reach out and find support in your town? In my opinion, being diabetic, even having asthma is WORSE that CAH!!!
Yes you have to be a responsible mother, but overall, you are not in control!! Hang in there and LIVE, enjoy your child and let your child LIVE!!
