Jessica, I don't understand why your child takes 3 injections a day. Can he take oral meds? My daughter is salt-wasting and she takes Cortef and Florinef ORALLY. The injections are for emergency - an adrenal crisis. As for being normal and playing with the other kids, please allow him to do those things. Sure he will pick up some germs, but that is also how he will build immunity to germs. I know it is scarey, but your son is normal in every way except that he doesn't produce Cortisol. Let him do the normal kid stuff - play with others, play sports, join clubs, etc. Believe me, it will get easier to handle as time goes on and you will see CAH is only a small part of who he is. By the way, my daughter is 17, has played softball, basketball, soccer, rides horses, participates in local art shows, used to be in chorus, was a girl scout, and is now an officer in 2 different 4-H clubs. I am only telling you this to let you know that it is truly ok to let your child do all these things - in fact, it is good to let him be like all the other kids. Just be aware of how to handle the serious injury if one should occur or serious illness. Good luck.
