I too was torn about having children when my son was your child's age. I began changing my mind as he grew older and my knowledge of his disease grew. We decided to go ahead and have another child and had to take all of the recommended precautions, ie, CVS, dex, amniocentesis. Our second son was born a perfectly normal child but because we only wanted one child and didn't want to go through all of the medical testing, I had my tubes tied. Unfortunatly 3 months later, our precious "normal" son died of SIDS. That was in '93 and now our SWCAH child is 15 and is able lead a very active "normal" life. We never know what God has in store for us. We each have peaks and valleys that we have to live through. In my life, having a child with CAH was much easier than some of the other unexpected valleys I've encountered.
