I chose the contraversy because there is some new parents and I don't want to upset, confuse, or scare them.  I read the post where the moms were discussing Dr. Poppas and a mom said her daughter needed to get checked to see if things were set for menstruation.  You replied she should consider giving her daughter a sedative or some type of knockout drug because you remembered being examined at that age your self and felt it was traumatic.  at a recent visit to the endo, she told me she had a patient who is 8 and virilized just like my daughter and now she wants the surgery due to painful and bothersome erections.  The parents are getting it done and I feel that patient though young is motivated and I would do the same if it were my kid.  What do you suggest having been through surgery yourself that a parent does to minimize the trauma of genital surgery at prepuberty?  Some amount of exams has to happen.  Do you feel personally that if your parents had waited and you chose surgery as a pre adolescent, that with support you would have been happy?  Of course your surgery would need to be up to today's standards.  Of course no surgery would be great but I find most young girls choose it if its left up to them unless they are mildly virilized.  Answer only if you feel like it because you have been helpful before so don't feel obligated.
