My 8 year old was recently diagnosed with adrenal hyperplasia. She started on cortef 5mg am, 5mg afternoon, and 10 mg at bedtime. she started on this approximately 2 months ago. we go to the doctors for a recheck in a couple weeks. Her face has gotten very large (i know this is a side effect) She looks as though ahe has gained 10 - 15 pounds. She has a very mild case of cah. bone age showed that she had bones of a 11yr old. she is getting made fun of because she has gained so much weight. I was explained in detail the risks and benfits of putting her on the medicine. I am begin to think maybe she should start to wean off the steroids and deal with problems if they arise later in life. She is devasted by the way she looks and feels. It breaks my heart. She really was very healthy. All this started when I took her to the doctors for a uti and she had a couple of pubic hairs. Please respond if you have any insight.
