re: 8 year old new diagnosis
Dec. 3rd, 2006   10:47pm

She is on too much Cortef! My daughter is almost 15 and she she takes 12.5mg Hopefully the doc will cut your daughter's dose by half, if he doesn't you need another doc. Since she has mild locah she doesn't need full replacement. I see this happening all the time with newcomers. I have locah and so does my daughter. I was dxed at age 25 and she at age 10. The same thing happened to her. She was put on 25mg of Cirtef and she gained weight and her face swelled up (moonface) and she became depressed. Her new doc cut her dose in half and I got my daughter back. I am now on Cortef myself and I take 15mg myself, and I feel great.

Hopefully your doctor will not try to get your daughters 17 ohp levels into normal range. It should be between 300 to 900ng/dl. 17 ohp fluctuates so doses should not be changed by that alone. The androstenedione should be checked too.

Hope that helps, there are more people on the main message board, but I'm sure everyone else will come look over here too.

 Take care....

M1
