re: advice on changing from pred and hydro to dex
Feb. 25th, 2007   9:45am

Lisa, I have not been on this board before but just found your message. My son diag at 2weeks (failure to thrive sympton) and had been on hydro til 2005 late. He was on 2 year treatment with Lupron (injections monthly) along with hydro, then change to methol pred.

We are not sure yet what has caused this but he does have extensive stretch marks (thinning of the skin) across his entire back and upper chest. Difficult for a 17 year old. Blood tests are showing good numbers for CAH. While on hydro numbers were high but he was incredibily healthy. We have ever needed solu cortef inject to this date.

My concern with the change to methol pred and possible side affects of lupron and methol is he has been very depressed and is currently on lexapro and wellbutron. Until early 2006 he has been driven in school work and his own standard has been high. About a 3.91 gpa. This last 9 months he (admittedly) has lost all drive, interest, desire, and motivation to do what he used to. We are both very concerned.

Sorry if more than you wanted but very little available to us on boys in teens with CAH. He is saltwasting and 21-hydroxlayse deficient.

I would ask for concise side affects, mood, physical changings and the effects of a higher or more potient dose of steriods and the affects on your son.

My son only took dex for a month time when they were running special blood tests.
