I didn't say she didn't take all the necessary steps, just that protecting their privacy is also part of the overall protection we parents must offer.
I don't see the actions of stupid people (children that would taunt someone else because of the way they look) as a valid reason for surgery. They idea of common sense being held hostage to idiocy seems counter productive.
If you'll forgive the biblical reference, the 23rd Psalms speaks of the Shephard's Rod and Staff. The Staff had a crooked end and was used to pull the sheep back from danger. The Rod was heavier, shorter and stright, and used to defend the sheep from danger as well as to prod the sheep to "green pastures" and "still waters". There are represented there four aspects of what we also as parents provide our children.
Protection from outside danger (peer pressure), protection from inner danger (foolishness), provision for outside good (education, etc.) and provision for inner good (integrity, etc.)
Lisa, apparently wasn't able to completely protect her daughter from all outside bad, no parent can. But when that fails, we need to turn to the inner protection. Silly children taunting you is a matter for inner strength, and while it may seem too hard--like I'm constantly telling my children--if it wasn't hard, you wouldn't learn anything.
