I am in another country where DHEA is not considered a supplement but a serious androgen, so it is strictly regulated and can only be prescribed by a doctor.
I have been taking DHEA for nearly three years as my levels had been undetectable for years prior to that. The doctor who prescribed it did baseline tests and then every six months he does blood levels. My DHEA is made by a compounding pharmacy, so the strength prescribed is according to what the doctor thinks is best for my level each visit, so it gets changed regularly.
One time after being on 50mgs my DHEA had spiked really high. I had been experiencing oily hair and pimple outbreaks which all settled down once I was back on 35 mgs.
However to get to the point of the discussion - still no libido, sex drive or anything else you want to call it, even when my DHEA level was well above range for those few months. So all I can conclude is that there must be other factors (perhaps because I am post-menopausal) which contribute to libido.
I'd say give DHEA a try, as it may be much more effective in a younger pre-menopausal person. I think I have benefited in other ways.
