Has anyone opted out of Growth Hormone / Aromatase Inhibitors?
Jun. 14th, 2007   10:56am

Our endo is wanting to put our 4 year old son on both of the above.  He is concerned about Gav's final height.

We are concerned about the experimental nature of these treatments, as their use in children with Idiopathic short stature (i.e., no attibutable cause) is too new to have long-term studies as to side effects, final height effect, etc.  There is evidence that growth velocity is improved in the short term, but none yet that final height is more than it would have been anyway.  We also don't ever want to impress upon our son that being short is a defect that must be corrected.

I don't have any doubt that Gav will have a great life, no matter what his final height.  Maybe it's because my husband and I are fairly short, and so are our families, but height has never been a top concern for me.  I just want our boy to be alive and healthy, but I think our Endo will be upset that I am refusing these treatments.

I'm probably opening myself up to be pounded on by asking, but is there anyone else that has just said, "Thanks but no thanks." to these treatments?

Hope
