Misdiagnoses
Jan. 20th, 2008   3:21am
My son was diagnosed at 6 months of age with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. About a year ago his doctor noticed (after almost 7 years), that none of his levels were ever elevated. Since I never asked to see any of the results, because of my trusting nature, I had no idea what they were. So they decided to wean him, keep him off the medication for a while, and then give him a stress test. Sure enough my son was misdiagnosed. I am pretty upset with both myself for not asking to see lab results, and with the doctor for not giving my son the proper care he needed. So I hope 7 years of steroids doesn't affect him. You would have thought they would have wondering after over medicating, and stunting his growth when he was 2 years old that they would pay more attention to his levels. So please, please, please parents please ask for your children's lab results, and growth charts at your next visit, and keep your own records. Don't let this happen to your child. sgrubbies@sbcglobal.net
