Mom never told me about surgery. Has this happened to anyone else? Mar. 2nd, 2008 8:30pm
Hi i'm a 22 yr. old female & new to this forum. I have CAH & have been controlled really well by my doctors over the years. I have never had any serious problems. i had a vaginoplasty & clitoplasty when i was only a few months old. my parents never told me about this ever. i found out accidently at a routine gynecologist appointment when i was 21. it was my first time their & the gynecologist was reading my chart & mentioned something about a surgery. i looked at him like he was crazy. I said to him "you must have the wrong person because i've never had any surgery on any part of my body." he replied "due to your condition you have a vaginoplasty & clitoplasty when you were a baby to correct the way your genitalia looked." i couldn't believe it. My mom never told me this. b/c of the surgery i have no sensation in my clitoris at all & a really narrow vagina opening that makes it really tough for the gyno to examine me & to use tampons. the gyno is also my mothers gyno & he said she definatley knew about the long term effests the surgery could have because they had talked about it. if she knew why did she never tell me. Ive never had sex & now i'm afraid to b/c the gyno said it could be painful. my endo never spoke to me about this either. he assumed my mom already did. ive asked her about it & she never gives me a striaght answer. most of he things i know about this condition ive learned on the internet. my parents never told me anything.
