We have waited to have surgery for my daughter. She is 8 years old. I'm not trying to persuade you. I just wanted you to hear what Dr. Rink, who is a top urologist in these surgeries, said at a recent CAH conference in Los Angeles. He believes that it is better to do the surgeries all at once. (clitoris if it's going to happen and vaginal) So, We, like you don't want to have surgery on my daughter's clitoris until she is old enough to decide for herself. He said that it is perfectly all right to wait for all the surgeries until the child is old enough to decide. (I thought we would have to have the vaginal surgery pre-puberty.) He said that once the child is no longer a baby, you might as well wait until the child has begun puberty as the estrogen produced helps with the surgery in healing and formation of the vagina. He finds it harder to do the clitoral surgery after the vaginal for two reasons. One is the doctor may not have been as competent as he and Dr. Poppas are. The 2nd is that if there is tissue removed from the clitoris he can use it to form inner labia or for the vaginal walls. Take care. Julia
