My daughter is almost thirteen years old.  She had clitoralplasty when she was about six months old.  Just short of her 12th birthday, she was having problems with urinary tract infections and a build up of fluid in her vaginal canal as fluid was not draining.  She was beginning to have signs of starting to menstruate and this was making the problem worse.  At that point, the doctors thought that her next surgery had to happen right away.  It was scary, but it was something I had known was going to happen since she was a baby.  She got through it very well.  She's so strong and beautiful inside and outside.  As her mom, I worry about her all the time, whether she's happy, hurt, liking school, getting along with her friends... It's an endless list.  I do worry about if she will have a "normal" life.  But what is normal?  She's the best thing that ever happened to me.  It is very important that you have open communication with your daughter before, during and after these surgeries.  My daughter does feel different, but she asks questions all of the time.  Being open and reassuring is the greatest gift you can give her.  Going into the teenage years is tough for any parent and child.  I do hope and pray that I've made the right choice for her.  Her doctors are all incredible and compassionate.  Medicine has come a long way.
