My wife and I have experienced the shock of learning that our child was born with swcah. Actually, we have experienced the news twice! We have two boys ( 6 & 8) born with this particular disorder. Our first thoughts upon learning of the disorder were saddness and disbelief. After the initial shock, we were quite happy to learn that we live in an area with outstanding doctors who understand the needs and issues for children with CAH. Hopefully, you will find a endicrine doctor that specializes in peadiactric care. If not, there are numerous doctors from the East coast to West coast that I can recommend.
What to expect....As you know each child is differenct and a doctor would best know in your child's case. Speaking from experience, our two boy's have had plenty of visit's to the emergency room in times of crisis (vomiting or diaherea bugs, do not take lightly), with cortisol shots to boot! Something they sure did not like, but are all the better for it! They both are very active, playing in hockey leagues, baseball, football, fishing etc...Do quite well in school and are delightful and beautiful little boys. We treat them the same way a parent would with a child born without a disorder would. With the right doses of florinef, cortef and predisone three times daily, one would never know (including the boys) that they are afflicted with this disorder. Again, with the proper dosages and doctors watchful eye, a special child with this disorder can do anything!
