I think she just meant gastroenteritis, which is illness and inflammation in the gastro-intestinal tract and can have many causes. In young children it is often viral (rota viruses and Norwalk viruses), and there are bacterial causes too, usually from tainted food. Little kids get these episodes pretty easily- as we all know! They don't understand washing their hands, not putting dirty fingers in the mouth, etc. My 2 yr old has SWCAH and this is her main illness, from time to time. She gets the N/V/D and if she can't keep anything down for hours, we give the injection- 5 times total, but otherwise she is well-controlled, so far, so good!
