Return to Page 2Post reply re: To: Annalise, Chloe and Nicole Mar. 22nd, 2008 7:20pm
Hey again:) Well, being 16 i have obviously started my period now, but i actually started when i was 14 which wasn't early at all seeing as my mum and gran both started at 11. If your levels are controlled and you don't have hormones with a mind of their own like i did, you should start around 13-16 but to be honest everyone is different, you can't accurately predict them. I'd ask your doctor next time you see him/her as she knows how your body is working:) With the growth thing, i'm not the shortest in my year but i'm also a long way off the tallest... I'm 160cm (5ft 3) which is my final height as my bones have fused together now; my predicted 'normal' height was 5ft 6 as my dad is 6ft 2 and my mum is 5ft 4 so i only lost 3 inches (i try to be positive lol). I wasn't blessed with the new medical break throughs they're discovering at the moment in the form of growth hormone though, which being young you still have time to use. As said previously growth hormone has come a long way recently and i've heard many CAH children have used it. I would mention this worry to your doctor too as there are so many things they can do now. I had solidex(probably not spelt right) injections for a year which slowed down my puberty and helped me gain 4 inches to make 5ft 3. I wouldn't worry too much about your height as we're all built different shapes and sizes; some people without CAH are under 5ft. The eating thing was always a massive issue for me as my levels were so bad that my steriod dosage was ridiculously high meaning i could quite possibly eat everything i saw! My maximum weight was 156.8 pounds (11 stone 2lbs) when i was about 13yrs old which made me extremely self conscious which isn't something a girl needs at 13. I've found exercise to be extremely beneficial in controlling weight and also relieving stress and worries that come as you get older. I found jogging the best exercise for weight loss and i ended up running 3 miles a day to lose weight last year but sadly due to exam revision i haven't quite got the time to do that much everyday. If you are able to exercise and also cut out bad food then i'm sure you'll control your weight better. I find carbohydrates (bread, rice and pasta) makes me put on weight so i try to limit my portions of them as much as possible and also salt. It sounds a little silly as we take salt tablets as we lose it but i used to pile salt on to my food when i was younger, but not i don't add salt to my food and don't ever eat crisps, fast food and ready meals as they're packed with hidden chemicals that don't help us. From doing the exercise and healthy eating i went from 156.8lbs (11stone 2lbs) to 125lbs (8stone 9lbs), so it does work:). But... You're only young, you need to enjoy yourself and not worry too much about these problems. Ask your doctor about the period and height thing as they should have an insight about your personal height and hormone levels etc. For the food situation, try cooking fresh meals, and making fruit salads and healthy things for school etc and cut out bad foods. Once you start healthy eating, your constant craving for food should calm down as i found it makes you less hungry:). Sorry this is so long, i tend to babble on a bit!
Hope you have a good Easter:)
Chloe
