Hi all. I am currently trying to get info regarding NCAH as it could be a possibility for me. I recently saw an endo after finding out that I am a Type 1 diabetic at age 39. That is strange enough but in the course of talking he was very skeptical about a diagnosis I received in March. After strange periods and then skipping one I went to ob/gyn to see about starting perimenopause. She did appropriate blood work and told me I was definitely perimenopausal. Well....endo does not think so. He ran blood tests checking 17OH, testosterone and DHEAs, anemia, B12, FSH, LH. He said there was no problem with the adrenals and said I have PCOS. (during visit he noted my thinning hair and I told him about facial hair). Anyway - I have come to question this diagnosis as I have not had a period in 2 months and I have hotflashes and night sweats which are not characteristic of PCOS. Plus, aside from the facial hair - which I have had to some degree since puberty - I have never had any problems with period or anything else related to PCOS. Period changes and thinning hair began about 4 years ago. He said we would have to do some further labs when I see him again and seemed unsure about whether this was an ovarian function problem.

My questions are: do any of my symptoms sound familiar and if he ran the 17OH and DHEAs and they were fine (I do have elevated testosterone) would this definitely exclude NCAH or are there other tests that should be run before I am excluded.

Thanks for your help.

Cindy
