very abnormal 17-ohp results. Please help! Jan. 6th, 2007 3:29pm
My 17ohp shot up to 1540 after the acth test. I am not sure what the baseline value was, 319, possibly 390. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of results yet, so I can't tell what the units are. My endocrinologist said that the results were very abnormal, but didn't suggest a retest, or any further testing to see why they are so high, just said he is putting me on prednisone.
I cannot find any information on how very abnormal this is or what could be a cause of it. Has anybody seen such numbers, or what is the usual "abnormal" range?
Also, what doses of prednisone should I avoid? I read 5 mg was standard, but I'd like to know what might be too dangerous, in case the doctor wants to prescribe a "horse" dose to put the numbers down fast.
