re: re: re: 5 yr old daughter diagnosed with CAH Jan. 13th, 2007 3:01pm
I cannot comment on her late diagnosis as far as what category it would be, but my own daughter was diagnosed at the age of 3 with pubic hair. She was also VERY mildly virilized, but the pediatrician thought maybe she was just at the extreme of normal, whatever that means. As far as the precocious puberty, my daughter was questionable at age 3-1/2, but at the age of 5 it was definite and she started Depot Lupron which she took until she was 13. At first I had the pediatrician's nurse give the shot each month and then she taught me how and I started giving them myself at home. We used Emla cream on the area before each shot to numb it a little. It worked great. The Depot Lupron worked great, stopped all puberty and when she went off of it, puberty resumed normally. She had no side effects except being sore the next day from the injection which I don't consider a side effect of the medication - just sore like anyone who gets a shot. Good luck.
