BC pills causing elevated Blood Pressure, anyone else have this?
Jan. 13th, 2007   7:31pm

Hello all, this is my first post... and I am so glad I found these boards, I am coming out of the dark about CAH!!  It's a place to feel belonging finally!!

I have LOCAH, diagnosed at 15, now 24...  and reflecting on some issues that have puzzled me.  I'm finding that my doctor and endo either didn't know much about CAH when I was put on Cortef, or just decided not to take the time to go over much of anything.  The endo basically said call me when you get pregnant and we'll look at your dose, than sent me back to my regular doctor who checks my vitals then fills my prescription.  Needless-to-say, I haven't had much monitoring, never had a medical ID, struggle with taking my pill regularly and have gaining 45 pounds that I can't get rid of even though I'm a relatively health eater and get moderate exercise.  It's frustrating, but I'm learning for myself now... a little at a time ;9

My question:

Before being diagnosed, I was put in birth control pills to regulate my period, but after 3 mos. was taken off for elevated blood pressure of 163/106 at age 14!!  My mother had the same problem with birth control pills in her adolescence.  I'm wondering now if this is due to CAH?  and also whether or not my mother has CAH as well?  She does display many of the signs that I also have now, and has developed high blood pressure now that she's aproaching her 50s.  Is this all somehow related, you think?

Also, I have hyper mobility in most of my joints (think double-jointed) and have suffered with inflammation and pinching of nerves, causing migraines occassionally and more often sciatica in one, or both legs, at times.  I wonder about my body's ability to cope with this inflammation and if I have any other options besides aspirin and/or ibuprophen.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  ;p

Blessed be,  Shelba_doo
