re: Cortef Weaning
Jan. 16th, 2007   10:59am

Our son had to be weaned off of the Cortef too.  But, our endo was not very cooperative.  He told us to just take him off of it cold turkey, but I knew better.  So, once I mentioned weaning him the endo agreed and gave us a schedule.  My son was taking Cortef every 8 hours.  He said to make sure the first day that we gave him his regular doses at regular times.  Day 2-3 only give him two doses.  Day 4-5 give him one dose.  Day 6 none.  Whether this is correct or not I don't know.  My suggestion is to half his dose each time.  So for instance, if he is taking 3mg every 8 hours, I would give him 1.5 mg every 8 hours for a couple of days.  Then .75 mg every 8 hours for a couple of days.  I am no doctor, but if his body is expecting a dose of Cortef every 8 hours then I would give it every 8 hours just at smaller doses.
