I have to agree with you Rebecca. When I was in my first year of high school I was the only one who befriended and let sit next to me, a profoundly deaf girl who could only lip-read. She has remained a friend for the many years since and at Christmas etc. we still exchange news.

To me it's as though from a very young age when you have something wrong with you it makes you much more aware of people and their various difficulties. It sort of makes you grow up & mature much quicker and take responsibility - of course I suppose it could work the opposite way and make you totally depressed and withdraw from the world. :-(

Children are extremely adaptable and personally I think that difficulties can help create strength of character.
