My name is Angie and my daughter is 13 yrs. old, her name is Stephanie. We are from Ohio. My daughter, was finally diagnosed with LOCAH and PCOS in 2005. Local docs didn't concern themselves with her early puberty symptoms. They ran bloodwork, ofcourse, the wrong tests. We went from doctor to doctor trying to combat all the symptoms. Due to her cycstic acne, and severe oily hair, we went to see a dermatologist. She tried treating her for several months and decided to put her on acutane. A baseline bloodwork had to be done before my daughter could take the medicine. That is when our dermatologist found the problem and sent her to the Cleveland Clinic. By the time my daughter was diagnosed, her growth plates were shut. There is such imrpovement in her acne and she no longer has severe oily hair. The problem she is having now is male pattern baldness. She is loosing her hair like crazy! I don't know if it is from the meds or if she is needing more. Her levels seem to be be slowly rising again. She takes Yasmin, Casodex--which one one else seems to be taking (its a male hormone blocker--used for prostate cancer patients) and prednisone. I am very worried about her. She is tired ALL THE TIME! They have checked her thyroid. They say that it is not a problem. When ever I have technical questions, I feel like it irritates them. I have been doing lots of research, Since LOCAH is a dificiency in 21-hydrx. there has got to be a way for the body to make it sufficiently without faking it out with prednisone. I posted an article from Dr. Lam the other day but have not received any comments. I am really interested if anyone has ever tried anything natural for this condition. I am just afraid after years of drugs that the adrenals will atrophy and possible other side effects. I would love some responses--especially to the hairloss--It is really bad!
