re: re: Introductions?--and note to Angie

I didn't introduce myself yet; I feel like I have already told my story here many times, so sorry if you've heard it before. My 17yo daughter started suffering with chronic hives 4 yrs ago and in the process of testing to see if we could find any cause of that, we discovered that her testosterone was elevated. Of course, the first diagnosis was "probable PCOS" and she was put on Yasmin, but she really has no other symptoms of PCOS. When her 17 ohp was finally tested, it was high, but on a stim test it only rose to carrier range. So she really doesn't have a diagnosis of LOCAH, but has many of the symptoms. (She's going to see a new endo on Wed, so we'll see what happens with that.) I'm hoping to get genetic testing done. Her allergist agree to try her on a low dose of prednisone, 2 mgs, and her testosterone is down in the normal range for the first time. But she still suffers from symptoms, especially fatigue, like Angie's daughter.

To Angie: My daughter's story sounds like a milder version of your daughter's. I can't believe the similarities. I wish I had some answers for you (and myself, too!). My daughter had mild early puberty symptoms, but at that time, I didn't realize that it was anything to be concerned about. Her androgen excess symptoms are pretty mild, but I do worry that they will get worse with time. It does seem to me that her hair is thinning, based on the amount of hair I see in her sink daily. My guess is that it is due to undersupression.

Our main problem is the fatigue, like your daughter. She has also had her thyroid checked several times. She can barely make it through the day getting her homework done. She is a senior in high school, and I am very concerned about how she will be able to handle college next year. I have also done lots of research; why don't we share anything significant we find here on the board? As far as natural treatments, we have tried acupunture a few times with no result, but that's all.

Good luck and keep us posted on what is happening.
