re: ...I also meant to say

Actually, Megan, I was just talking about a regular blood test for cortisol, not a stim test. Sorry, I guess we got off topic from the beginning of the thread, so that was misleading to you.

So what the dr says actually makes sense, but several people have told me that their dr tells them differently. I wish I could find it documented somewhere. I asked Kelly at Cares Foundation and she also said you have to be off steroids for a couple of weeks, but couldn't give me documentation. She said that this should be common knowledge for an endo. My daughter's allergist (who actually prescribed the pred) also agrees. So I don't know what to believe. My daughter also is on Yasmin, which will interfere with a lot of the tests, also. It is an oral contraceptive that also contains an antiandrogen.

One other thing that is odd about the high cortisol results my daughter got: if the prednisone was still exerting an effect, wouldn't her cortisol level have been suppressed, rather than exceptionally high? And does the high cortisol level indicate that she couldn't have LOCAH, since her cortisol response is apparently not blunted? I'm so confused.

We went ahead and repeated the tests today as the dr asked. It will be interesting to see the results. I don't think they will be at all reliable as far as getting a diagnosis of LOCAH. I'm hoping to convince him to order genetic testing instead. That's why I need to find documentation as to whether antihistamines will interfere with the stim test. If so, then we can just forget her stim test results.

Thanks for your input!

Kat
