Hi everyone!! I've been gone for quite awhile from this board due to family problems. We moved my husband's mom back here from AZ. Apparently she was having problems living there on her own, but because we are in WI we were not aware. She has suddenly had episodes of hallucinations & paranoia. It was awful during the move because she thought her son (my husband) was someone else kidnapping her, she kept grabbing the steering wheel, screaming! When they pulled in our driveway she was hysterical, she was hitting & biting us, so we called 911 for help. It was just a terrible scene. She has continued to have horrible, dangerous episodes and has been in & out of psych. hospitals. She was finally diagnosed with Micro Infarct Dementia and they found a good anti-psychotic medication for her. Shes 85yrs old and over time she has had a number of little strokes. Therefore, her brain is spotted with a number of dead areas, her brain is shrinking & there is some fluid in her brain. We are her only family and since I do not work outside of our home, I am her primary care giver even though she is in an assisted living facility. I just feel terrible for her during her lucid moments because then she realizes what she has done and where she is. She was always an extremely dignified, highly intelligent and independent woman. We became her guardians Monday and it was difficult for her to hear the judge reading that she was mentally ill, unable to care for herself & mentally incompetent.
Anyway, Rachel (17yrs old) has been on .25mg of Dex for 3 months and she has gained 9lbs!!!! Still carrying the 25lbs she gained a few years ago from being over treated on Cortef, this was difficult for her to know. She is still exhausted! We are reducing her Dex to 1/2 of the .25. We can only get .5mg tablets here and we break them into 1/4's.
Quinn's labs were lost so she had to go back in today for another draw. But she is doing well and I do not suspect that she will need to go back on meds as of now. She is 14.5 yrs and still hasn't started her period (the later the better!!). Quinn made the high school soccer team, so we may stress dose her for games. We have leeway so we will take that as it comes.
Clark (11yrs) is doing well on Zoloft and is not back on Cortef either. I was worried that he was going into puberty too early but from his labs and the size of his testicles, he is not yet, so I'm glad!
I'm getting fatter and more tired! I'm cutting my Dex to a 1/4 of a pill, just like Rachel's dose. My headaches were bad this month and I just realized yesterday that the pharmacy accidentally gave me a lower dose of Inderall (headache meds) so that explains my frequent headaches this month. I'm sure I'll get better when on the correct dose!! I'm FORCING myself to exercise a little the last couple of days, so I hope I can increase and keep it up because I HATE this fat roll on my tummy! I want to comfortably paint my own toe nails!!!
If I don't have time to keep in touch on the board its because I'm busy taking care of my mother-in-law, so please don't think I don't care about all of you!! I do!!
